Long Beach Island Winter Engagement Session – Tori + Mike

Tell us about the proposal!
Mike proposed on Memorial Day Weekend at his house in Ship Bottom. It was probably the coldest and rainiest Memorial Day in history actually. I was relaxing on the couch, reading, watching TV and just enjoying laying low in sweatpants with Mike as we watched the stormy ocean from the windows. I knew we had plans to go to our friend’s house later, so I reluctantly put on a sweater and jeans (thankfully). When we were about to leave, Mike pulled me out onto the deck, as it had stopped raining briefly, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I was truly so surprised. He had my whole family and a bunch of our friends waiting to join us for a celebration. Later on, we all went to our favorite bar, the Arlington, and the celebration continued all weekend long.

What are your favorite things to do together?
The first thing we started doing together was working out at the gym. We are both former athletes and we enjoy being active together. If you follow us on social media you will probably see more gym posts than anything else, so I apologize for that! We also love traveling and exploring new places together. For our first vacation together, I convinced Mike to take a road trip out of Vegas to visit 5 national parks and live out of a van for 8 days. We camped in the most beautiful places, hiked all over the parks, froze a little (it was January), and only almost ran out of gas once. We had such a good time together. It was after this trip that I knew what we had was really special. We now try to do a national park trip once a year, usually in the fall time. We want to visit all of them together some day. When we travel together, we’re always trying to find the best cup of coffee in town. Mike is also big into craft beers, so we frequent many local breweries as well. We also spend a lot of time at the beach, with Mike’s family in Long Beach Island, and with my family in Avalon. Mike was a beach lifeguard for 10 years. He taught me how to surf, something I always wanted to do growing up. Now I wake him up at the crack of dawn on the weekends to check the waves. He usually doesn’t mind. Most of all, we love being together with our family and friends. We both feel really lucky to have such amazing people in our lives and we are so excited to bring everyone together at our wedding.
